POLITICAL PARTIES OF THE FEDERATION ASSEMBLY

Like any parliamentary body, the Federation Assembly is made up of many groups all working to further their own interests while supporting the common good of the majority. Because the Federation is composed of many different peoples with varying points of view, it is no surprise that there are various political groupings within the Assembly.

One of the most important is the REFORM PARTY. This movement was founded in the belief that the four original members of the Federation have created an unfair power bloc that no new member can overcome. They seek to remove the permanent positions of the Founding Worlds and give every member planet the same chance of achieving election to the Council.

The FEDERALIST PARTY considers that the Federation government has grown too big and bureaucratic, and that it should be 'rolled back' to the more freeform structures that existed in the 22nd century. Generally conservative, the Federalists support a strong Starfleet but are against rapid galactic expansion.

The VETERANS PARTY is a small but vocal group of ex-Starfleet officers who have moved into political careers and been elected as their homeworld's Assembly representative. This group favours expansion of Starfleet and lobbies for both the increased production of starships and more resources to research and development, but do not generally enjoy much support from their fellow Assembly delegates.
