The Sim

The USS Phoenix

In the year 2436, the United Federation of Planets is recovering from a devastating two-year civil conflict between Starfleet and a Human-centric fascist organisation known as the Neo-Essentialists. In this new era of Federation history, the next generation of young Starfleet officers is coming to the fore, heading the effort to restore the spirit of the great interstellar alliance...

The Federation Role Playing Game is a creative writing game set in the Star Trek universe. New players take the roles of new graduates into the fleet, and participate in writing a series of collective stories with their shipmates. With over twenty years of a mythos already built up, and a clear, concise set of rules, the FRPG aims to be the premiƩre Trek writing sim on the Internet!

THE FEDERATION ROLE PLAYING GAME FAQ
(Got a question? Read this, or send us a Facebook message!)

1. What is the FRPG?

Put simply, the FRPG is an online play-by-email, where people with a flair for creative writing come together to tell collaborative stories in the Star Trek universe. It was started back in 1995 and is still going!

2. In what year is the FRPG set?

The current game year is 2437, so we are set about 60 years after the end of Star Trek: Voyager. We do not use the JJ-verse in our stories.

3. Do I have to be a Trekkie or Trekker to play?

No. All that is necessary is a basic knowledge of Star Trek and a knack for telling a good story!

4. What do you mean by creative writing?

We mean fiction! The FRPG can be considered a type of fan fiction, but our stories take place in a consistent, well-developed setting, with believable (often flawed) characters.

5. Is there an age limit to joining the game?

Yes. We comply with the Childrens' Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998, and do not accept players under 13 years of age. However, since our stories occasionally contain adult themes and language, we prefer our players to be a bit older than that!

6. How do I create a character?

Here on our website, there is a 'Join' link. It's on the right-hand side of the Home page. That will take you to the character generation page, where you will fill in details like your character's name, physical description, background history, etc.

7. Can my character be rejected?

Yes. There are certain races and backgrounds out-of-bounds to new players, such as choosing an Android or a member of the Q Continuum. Your character should be one of the 'classic' Star Trek races. If in doubt, contact us to check. We'll work with you to create a well-rounded character and background should the need arise.

8. I need more information. Where can I go?

You can send us a message through Facebook Messenger if you use it. We also have a website (this is it). We also have a Facebook Group and an active chat thread (you can find the links to those on the Home page)! Visit the website, read our posts, and see what you think. We hope you'll be inspired to come join our adventures!
