CALNARIANS

In appearance, CALNARIANS look like monsters. Their skulls are elongated, with a heavy bone plate on top. They have two beady black eyes beneath the bone plate. Their nostrils are embedded into their slanting maw, which puckers open at the bottom to reveal a small mouth full of sharp teeth. They stand around seven feet tall and are physically strong and bulky.

Their society - the Calnarian Solar Empire - is divided into five castes, and ruled over by the aggressive, xenophobic Warrior caste. Their Worker caste specialises in operating Calnarian starships and any ground equipment. Their Healer caste acts as physicians. Their Grower caste is responsible for farming. Their Breeder caste, exclusively female, is responsible for giving birth to the other castes.

The vast majority of Calnarians are male. The female Breeders are kept in safety and in a state of constant pregnancy. How they give birth to a Warrior over a Worker, for example, is unclear, but it may involve some kind of internal chemical reaction during the fertilisation stage of their reproduction.

Although the Warrior caste is violent and xenophobic, the other castes are not necessarily so. There has been no contact with a Grower or a Breeder. Workers seem to simply obey whenever a Warrior issues a command. However, Calnarian Healers are gentle, kind, and empathetic, belying their hideous facade. Not all monsters, it seems, are evil.
