THORIS P'TRELL

THORIS P'TRELL was the Andorian former Secretary of the Interior and President of the United Federation of Planets.

Born in the city of Harbourtown in 2375, Thoris considered a career in Starfleet before deciding to stand for election as Harbourtown's mayor in 2403. His victory set him on the political path, and he became a career politician, noted for his inspiring leadership and occasional uncompromising attitude.

In the summer of 2412, following the news of the Federation's victory over the Kem D'Neel at Coriana III, Thoris was elected as Andor's representative to the Federation Assembly. He spent six years as Andor's Assembly representative, winning re-election twice, until the death in office of Andor's Council member elevated Thoris to the Federation Council in 2418.

2418 was an eventful year, with the Council authorising a Starfleet task force to wage a military campaign against the recently-contacted Calnarian Solar Empire, and also making urgent diplomatic representation to the Borg Federation upon the outbreak of their civil war with the Neo-Collective. As Andor's representative on the Council, Thoris was in the thick of the politicking, being a strong voice in favour of a military response against the Calnarians.

In 2422, Thoris was elevated to the position of Secretary of the Interior under the newly-elected Denobulan President Moray. That year saw the outbreak of the Second Dominion War, so his department maintained a back-seat role for the next few years.

When Moray was re-elected as President for a second term in 2426, Thoris regained his Cabinet position, but his world collapsed three years later with the Romulan Invasion and the declaration of martial law across the Federation. At some point during this period, he was approached by the Neo-Essentialist Richard Edgerton, who revealed his entire plot to Thoris and entreated the Andorian's support. Ever the natural politician and accepting of the Neo-Essentialists' public policy of 'Federation First', Thoris secretly joined the organisation, becoming a high-ranking undercover agent code-named Subject Blue.

In this guise, he helped to lead the last remnants of Moray's government to flee Earth aboard the USS Demeter when Edgerton engineered their collective assassination. Still portraying himself as a loyal Federation politician, Thoris was now the highest-ranking surviving member of the old government, and on their arrival in the distant Elandipole system, the loyalist Starfleet officers there acclaimed him President of the Federation.

Thoris' true mission as Subject Blue was triggered when he met the USS Pendragon and saw for himself the chronoton artifact that had supposedly sent the ship back through time from a dystopian future. Under orders from Edgerton, who had sent a fleet to Elandipole to force a confrontation with the loyalist Starfleet, Thoris used his presidential authority to engineer the transfer of the artifact to the USS Demeter, then beamed both himself and the artifact aboard the flagship of the Neo-Essentialist fleet when it arrived in-system.

The plan to seize the chronoton artifact was foiled by a group of quick-thinking loyal Starfleet officers, who sent proof of both Edgerton's and Thoris' treachery to both fleets. As a Starfleet civil war was narrowly averted, Thoris P'Trell was arrested and stripped of his office.

Following his trial, Thoris P'Trell was guilty of treason and, as part of the Neo-Essentialist movement, of crimes against humanity. He was sentenced to life imprisonment at the New Zealand penal settlement on Earth, where he remains to this day.
