Personality & Traits

General Overview Hector is gregarious and outgoing. He has a way of getting people to let their guard down. He loves to socialize and is generally well-liked by his peers. He tends to be informal even while on duty, which does not always endear him to his superior officers. He’s a quick thinker and has a keen attention to detail, which makes him a gifted Operations officer, but he has stalled his own career on more than one occasion by not knowing how to keep his head down. He likes to be called “Heck” by his friends.
Strengths & Weaknesses Hector probably missed his calling in politics. He has an honest charm that makes it easy for him to get people on his side, and he genuinely seems to like just about everyone. He can give and take a joke with the best of them, he is the life of almost any party, and he can talk his way out of just about anything.

Hector is very intelligent, but this has also made him lazy. He tends to favor clever shortcuts over honest work. Much of the time, this works out in his favor, but it can lead to mistakes that a more steady approach would have caught.

Personal History Hector Solorzano was born in San Francisco, EARTH, only a few kilometers away from the grounds of Starfleet Academy. His intelligence was obvious even at an early age, and by the time he had finished his primary education, he was already on track for eventual admission into Starfleet. He graduated at the top of his class in secondary school, and his outgoing personality and excellent multitasking abilities made him well-suited to Starfleet’s Operations division.

In the Academy, he got in trouble several times for pranks and confidence schemes. He met Jacob Crichton during his first year, and the two of them combined to give premature grey hairs to about half of the Academy’s security services. The Academy was also one of the first times in Hector’s life where he was surrounded by people just as intelligent, if not more so, than he was, and he found that he didn’t quite have the work ethic that some of his peers did. He got by on last-minute cramming, mnemonic memorization tricks, and sweet-talking a few of his classmates into carrying him through some of the more complex projects. He considered dropping out about halfway through his education, but was talked out of it by his friend Jake.

After graduation, Hector served on a handful of starships, working competently but without distinction. During the Second Dominion War, Heck was posted on a patrol detail on the Gamma side of the wormhole, and saw action against Jem’Hadar forces a few times. The experience left a few scars, as it did for many of the young officers who served in that war, but Heck does a good job of hiding it under his outgoing and gregarious nature.

Recently, Heck had worked his way up to Chief Operations Officer aboard Starbase 56, near the Federation’s border with Romulan space. The remote posting was never much to Heck’s liking, and a combination of restlessness and Heck’s inability to stay out of trouble got him dismissed from that posting. His career might have stalled permanently, yet his generally good record (and the fact that he called in a favor from his old buddy Jake) secured him a posting as the assistant Chief of Operations aboard the USS PHOENIX.
